The design and orientation of the Freemasonry Universal logo has been a frequent topic of those sending correspondance to this site, to uphold the frank and honest, some has in truth been quite rude with those claiming to be Freemasons demanding that the orientation be changed, or demeaning comments over the site authors knowledge due to it, which was never followed with an apology when the explination I will now give you was provided. So Freemasons aren't all perfect ;-)
To start, as you fly around the web looking for information on Freemasonry you will find most sites will contain a variation of sorts of the Square and Compasses, it being the universal symbol for Freemasonry it is not surprising, and as Freemasonry Universal is a site on Freemasonry we would of course adopt the universal sign.
As to the specific design, we didn't want to have the same image as everyone else, we also do not feel that some of the more modern interpretations of the symbol are correct, i.e. the Square of the Freemason was a tool to check the angle of a corner to ensure it was square NOT to measure length, but modern interpretation of the Square have adopted the modern tool which includes measurements along each external length. So it was decided we would create our own.
Whilst researching Freemasonry we read, as most will have, about the schism in England and on some pages it displayed their unique banners, of which one had the Square and Compasses in the opposite orientation which puzzled us and made us want to ask questions.
On further reflection we noted there was no rule, guide or indication that the Square and Compasses had to be a certain way up, see there is always something new to learn!
So we adopted a self designed Square and Compasses and flipped it on it's head, this was decided for TWO main reasons.
